A Clay + Glass Two Studio Experience
Presented by LoLo Studios, sister studios LOAM Clay Studio & Loretta Glass Studio, both located at 131 Loretta Avenue North, Ottawa, ON
Step into a one-day material exploration where clay and glass come together in a playful, sculptural form. In this collaborative workshop, you’ll create your own ceramic planter and pair it with a hand-shaped glass cactus, a small, vibrant piece that lives somewhere between object and illusion.
Begin your experience at Loretta Glass Studio, where you’ll be introduced to torch-working with borosilicate glass. Using flame, gravity, and simple tools, you’ll shape molten glass into a cactus form, exploring transparency, colour, and surface detail. Each piece develops organically; no two forms will be the same.
Then, move into LOAM Clay Studio, where you’ll handbuild your ceramic planter using slab techniques. You’ll shape, refine, and decorate the surface through carving, texture, or simple pattern work, creating a base that complements your glass piece. Form, proportion, and material contrast are at the center of this process.
Together, these two elements come into dialogue: soft clay and molten glass, both transformed through heat, each holding a different kind of permanence.
Enjoy a day immersed in making, moving between two studios and two processes, guided step-by-step throughout.
All materials, firings, and instruction are included. No prior experience is necessary, just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
