Three editions of Besler’s Hortus Eystettensis (Garden of Eichstätt) were produced: the first, issued in his lifetime in 1613; the second, posthumous, in 1640; and the third and final edition in 1713. These may be distinguished by the watermarks in the paper.
Basilius Besler (1561–1629) was curator of the garden at Eichstätt, created by Johann Konrad von Gemmingen (1561–1612), Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt in Bavaria.
