One night, Iguana decided to secretly leave the village and take the fire with him. Iguana had always coveted the fire, having guarded it so often, and now he wanted it all to himself. He carried the fire to a hidden cave high up near the mountain peak. When the villagers discovered the theft, they were plunged into despair. In the distance, they could faintly see the fire’s light as they huddled in the darkness. Slowly, voices began to rise demanding that the fire be returned. Among them, Crow and Toad were the loudest. Determined to restore the fire, the villagers hatched a plan. Opossum set off on a daring mission, tricked Iguana, and ran off with his tail ablaze—Tails on Fire. At least, that's how the Huichol people of Mexico tell it.
Tails on Fire brings this tale to life in an interactive card game where the hunt for the fire leads to constant twists and turns. Before each round, players scout the current display to see which fire cards can be won or stolen from rivals. They cunningly choose three cards to play in a round, aiming to remain in the game by continuously playing a card with a value increased by one. Players may also sit out and bluff, creating opportunities to outwit their opponents.
However, the climactic moment comes when the last player in the round plays the final card, "Tails on Fire," claiming the fire and the valuable points. But victory is fleeting—another player could take the fire in the next round by matching the same card value. Just like Opossum tricked Iguana, players must bluff, strategize, and outmaneuver their opponents every round.
Tails on Fire offers a clever, fast-paced card game experience steeped in the folklore of Mexico’s Huichol people. With its accessible rules and engaging layers of strategy, it’s a brilliant mix of art, heritage, and gameplay that challenges players to stay unpredictable and sharp at every turn.
Cauldron 15 is a trick-taking card game from Japan. Players are witches bringing different ingredients to brew up potions.
Play follows the normal method for tricks. However, players are trying to reach but not exceed a total of 15. The cards players earn from winning tricks depend on the total value of the trick. If it is under or on 15, that's okay, but going over 15 causes trouble.
Further, if the player's final score is over 15, they cannot win. But by obtaining all five ingredients, a player can nuetralise the potion and discard to alter their score.
This game is Japanese but is language-independent and English rules are provided in the box.
