Louis Latour Duet d'Ardèche 2023 laat mooi zien hoe goed Chardonnay en Viognier elkaar kunnen aanvullen in de Ardèche. Deze cuvée is bijzonder omdat beide druiven tegelijk worden geoogst en samen worden vergist, waardoor frisheid, rondeur en aromatische spanning vanaf het begin in evenwicht blijven. Juist dat gezamenlijke oogst- en vergistingsmoment maakt deze wijn inhoudelijk interessant.

Wijngaarden en regio

De herkomst ligt in de Ardèche, waar Louis Latour al sinds het einde van de jaren 70 doelbewust werkt aan witte wijnen met Bourgondische precisie.

  • Ligging / Herkomst: Deze wijn valt onder IGP Ardèche, binnen de Coteaux de l'Ardèche. Daarmee zit hij in een Zuid-Franse herkomst waar Louis Latour bewust een eigen witte stijl heeft ontwikkeld buiten Bourgogne.
  • Bodem: De bodems bestaan uit klei en kalksteen. Die combinatie geeft de blend genoeg rondeur voor Chardonnay en tegelijk voldoende spanning om de frisheid van Viognier mooi te dragen.
  • Wijngaard: De gemiddelde leeftijd van de stokken is 15 jaar en het rendement ligt op 45 hl/ha. Dat houdt de stijl levendig en zuiver, zonder dat de wijn te breed of zwaar wordt.
  • Wijngaard & Oogst: De oogst gebeurt deels met de hand en deels machinaal. Voor deze cuvée is vooral belangrijk dat de laatste week van de Chardonnay-pluk samenvalt met de eerste week van de Viognier-oogst, zodat beide druiven tegelijk kunnen worden verwerkt en de natuurlijke frisheid van Viognier behouden blijft.

Vinificatie en rijping

De kelderaanpak is hier volledig gericht op zuiver fruit en een soepele, evenwichtige stijl.

  • Vergisting: De 2 druiven worden samen vergist in roestvrijstalen tanks, met temperatuurcontrole en volledige malolactische omzetting. Dat geeft de wijn een zachte, ronde textuur, terwijl de frisheid netjes overeind blijft.
  • Rijping / Houtopvoeding: Daarna rijpt de wijn 18 maanden in roestvrijstaal. Daardoor blijft de stijl puur en fruitgericht, zonder invloed van hout.

Druivensamenstelling

De kracht van deze wijn zit juist in het samenspel tussen 2 druiven die elkaar goed aanvullen.

  • Chardonnay – Ardèche: Chardonnay geeft de blend zijn rondeur, structuur en rustige basis. Daardoor krijgt de wijn meer breedte en een soepel mondgevoel.
  • Viognier – Ardèche: Viognier brengt extra aromatische lift en helpt de wijn zijn frisse, elegante karakter te behouden. Juist door de gezamenlijke oogst blijft die spanning mooi in balans.

Proefnotities en serveertips

Licht goudgeel in het glas, met een neus van abrikoos en verse amandel. In de mond is deze witte Ardèche vol en gul, met opnieuw duidelijk abrikoosfruit en een zachte, soepele textuur. De afdronk blijft fris en mooi aanhoudend, waardoor de wijn tegelijk breed en levendig overkomt.

  • Serveertemperatuur: 10–12 °C werkt hier het mooist, omdat dit bereik de balans tussen frisheid, souplesse en aromatische expressie goed laat uitkomen.
  • Gerechten: Aperitief, fijne charcuterie en vis sluiten hier heel natuurlijk op aan, omdat de wijn zachtheid en frisse spanning mooi combineert.

Louis Latour bouwde in 1986 een moderne wijnmakerij in Alba-la-Romaine en werkt in de Ardèche nauw samen met ongeveer 100 lokale wijnbouwers onder langlopende contracten. Het huis koopt daarbij alleen druiven, geen most, zodat het de kwaliteit van perceel tot fles zelf kan volgen. Die combinatie van Bourgondische precisie, lage rendementen en langdurige samenwerking vormt nog altijd de basis van het Ardèche-project van Louis Latour.

Interesting take on the genre

True rating: 3.25 ⭐️ I enjoyed the fresh take on the genre. The best way I could describe the setting and world is an apocalyptic dystopian version of Farie where vampires, fae, and angles struggle to survive in what is left of the world. It was definitely interesting throwing the academy/hunger games aspect into this world as well. Even though I guessed the final reveal early on in the book, I kept hoping I was wrong, and it would take a surprising turn. While the "plot twists" were a bit predictable to me, I still enjoyed the ride this book took me on. Another downfall for me was the plot holes in the world building... I.E. if society has fallen and the world is in the aftermath of war, how are there trains running around the world? Just to take young adults to the trials to get into the golden city? How is the train maintained, the tracks clear, etc? However, I did enjoy the FMC & MMC and thought they were fleshed out nicely. I also enjoyed the side characters but wish some were developed more like Ashalin (sp?). I do find myself rooting for the MCs to succeed and find happiness together, which is obviously an important aspect for romantasy. Overall, was this an earth-shattering, mind-bending, terrific piece of literature? No. But was it the worst thing I've read this year? Also, no. This book has, to me, the bones of a great read & just needs a bit more to push it from an alright book to a great book. Overall ratings: Plot- 3.5⭐️ World building 3⭐️ Spice 2.5 🌶🌶 Main characters 4 ⭐️ Supporting characters 3.5⭐️

Ok so I never write reviews but this book was so good I felt the need to write this. Firstly your introduced to Huntyr you see her closed off hard core badass than towards the end you see the most subtle change and growth it’s amazing and the enemies to friends to lovers was just perfect, AND THE TWIST AT THE END GOT ME GOOD! You see one spicy scene the whole book but it doesn’t even MATTER BECAUSE THE BOOK WAS THAT GOOD. I’ve read 85 books in 2023-2024 so far and I’m pround to say this is my all time favorite.
