"Career Documentation for the Visual Artist: A Legacy Planning Workbook & Resource Guide" provides a breadth of information and perspectives about legacy planning for artists, along with practical tools that support engagement with this long-term, and sometimes challenging, process. Developed in collaboration with artists, arts professionals, and legal and financial experts, this free educational workbook is part of the Joan Mitchell FoundationÕs Creating a Living Legacy (CALL) initiative, which for nearly 15 years has supported artists in their efforts to catalogue, manage, and preserve their lifeÕs work.

"Career Documentation for the Visual Artist" features an esteemed group of professional voices in the artist legacy and archiving field, and covers a range of topics including setting priorities and goals, creating a support system, budgeting for your inventory practice, mapping your archival legacy, creating an artwork inventory, managing digital image assets, creating a bibliography, drafting a preservation plan, capturing your career map and timeline, and more practical advice for documenting your career as an artist. The Guide approaches career documentation as a collective endeavor, to inform and prepare artists to actively position themselves and their artistic legacies in the future.

"Career Documentation for the Visual Artist" is co-edited by Shervone Neckles-Ortiz, Artist Programs Manager, Professional Development and Kay Takeda, who previously served as Deputy Director, Artist Programs at the Joan Mitchell Foundation. It includes contributions from artists and educators Rose Candela, Catherine Czacki, Jennifer Pati–o, Antonia A. Perez, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, and Jan Wurm; arts and professional administrators Virginia Allison-Reinhardt, Steven G. Fullwood, Jim Grace, Margaret Graham, Tempestt Hazel, LaStarsha McGarity, and Sharon Mizota; and legal and financial experts Luke Blackadar, Elaine Grogan Luttrull, and Deidre Hamlar.

This resource guide is available as a free download and ebook from the Joan Mitchell FoundationÕs website; this print-on-demand version is offered at cost for those who want a physical copy.
