Libec Professional LANC Remote Controllers

When looking for a Libec remote control engineered for LANC video cameras and external monitor/recorders, Libec manufactures a few specialized tools depending on whether you strictly need a record trigger or full lens control (zoom/focus).

1. The Dedicated Trigger: Libec REC-LA

If you are looking specifically for a streamlined Rec/Stop remote, the Libec REC-LA is engineered precisely for this. It was designed to trigger recording simultaneously on modern external monitor/recorders and LANC-compatible cameras.

  • Dual-Target Triggering: It natively controls external monitor/recorders (like the Atomos Ninja V, Ninja V+, and Shogun series) via a direct 2.5mm jack connection, as well as traditional LANC-equipped video cameras from Sony, Canon, JVC, and select Panasonic models.

  • Smart Clamp Mechanism: Built with an adjustable mechanical clamp that secures onto round pipes ranging from 10mm to 45mm ($\emptyset$ 0.4" to 1.8"). It attaches effortlessly to fluid head pan bars, gimbal grips, or 15mm camera rig rods.

  • Independent Power: It does not drain your camera or monitor's power supply; it runs efficiently on a single, easily replaceable CR2032 coin battery.

2. The Multi-Function Controllers: Zoom & Focus

If your camera setup requires remote lens operation alongside your record trigger, Libec offers two industry-standard alternatives that attach to your tripod handle:

Libec ZC-LP (Zoom + REC)

  • The Rocker System: Features a precision double-sided thumb rocker that gives you fully variable speed control over your camera’s internal servo zoom (from a slow creep to a rapid punch-in).

  • Invert Direction Switch: Includes a toggle that flips the orientation of the zoom rocker. This is vital if you mount the controller facing upside down or under-slung on a jib or monopod.

  • Protocol Switch: Features a physical LANC / Panasonic toggle to seamlessly shift between different camera command languages.

Libec ZFC-L (Zoom + Focus + REC)

  • Dual Axis Control: In addition to the variable speed zoom rocker and the red REC Start/Stop button, the ZFC-L adds a dedicated Focus control toggle.

  • Target Audience: Ideal for operators flying compact cameras on jibs, cranes, or complex tripod builds where physically reaching around to touch the lens ring would cause camera shake.

Quick Selection Matrix:

Feature Libec REC-LA Libec ZC-LP Libec ZFC-L
Primary Function Record Start / Stop Zoom + Record Trigger Zoom + Focus + Record Trigger
Hardware Compatibility Cameras & Atomos Recorders LANC & Panasonic Cameras LANC-capable Cameras
Connection Interface 2.5mm TRS LANC Cable 2.5mm TRS Combo Cable 2.5mm TRS Cable
Clamp Width Range 10mm to 45mm 10mm to 45mm Up to 45mm
Power Source 1x CR2032 Battery Passive (Bus powered) Passive (Bus powered)

⚠️ Compatibility Field Note: Standard LANC protocols handle simple commands beautifully. However, always check your specific camera body's firmware settings when using external recorders like the Atomos Ninja series. Some mirrorless cameras require you to enable "HDMI Timecode/Remote Triggering" in the camera menu so the LANC command successfully passes through the camera to start the monitor recorder simultaneously.

It's enlightening to see the seamless integration and the versatility that Unity offers, especially through Scott’s detailed and clear explanations. The practical insights and the in-depth exploration of Unity’s capabilities have empowered me to leverage the platform to its fullest potential. Practical Approach to Learning: Scott Tykoshi’s method of blending theory with practical examples is a boon for learners. The real-world applications and practical exercises resonate well with my learning style, providing a hands-on experience that is crucial for mastering game design. The examples are well-thought-out, relevant, and inject a dose of reality into the theoretical aspects, making the learning process engaging and effective. From Novice to Master: "Mastering Game Design with Unity 2021" lives up to its name, taking the reader on a journey from the basics to the advanced intricacies of game design. Whether it’s understanding the nuances of player progression or getting to grips with visual scripting, the book lays out a clear path for achieving mastery in game design. Great Book for Project-Based Learning
Format: Paperback
As a Unity Instructor I can say the book is really amazing I was expecting that I'd face a basic book, but instead, the book is very complete, even having AR and VR chapters totally adapted to the new version of Unity, which makes it one of the best books to master Unity (if not the best).
