About the work
This edition, created by Claire Barclay on the occasion of her Bloomberg Commission at the Whitechapel Gallery in 2010, is inspired by architectural hardware such as keys, locks and chains. These overlapping silhouettes of door furniture signify both incarceration and the unlocking of treasures or secrets.

About the artist
Born in Paisley, Scotland in 1968 and Barclay is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art. She is one of a generation of artists who have re-engaged with craft techniques and the symbolic resonance of materials, her work draws on architecture and household objects.

Selected exhibitions
Barclay represented Scotland at the 2003 Venice Biennale and her work has also been included in several other national and international exhibitions such as the British Art Show, Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Australia and Kettle's Yard, Cambridge. Barclay has made solo shows for MUDAM, Luxembourg; Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh; The Showroom Gallery, London; Camden Arts Centre, London and Stephen Friedman Gallery, London.
