INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the Apply Waterproofing Systems to Wet Areas Below Ground Level course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in planning, preparing, selecting, applying, detailing, inspecting and protecting waterproofing systems for wet areas below ground level in accordance with work instructions, drawings, specifications, site conditions, manufacturer requirements and workplace procedures.
Applying waterproofing systems to wet areas below ground level involves interpreting work instructions, selecting PPE, following safety documentation, checking substrates, confirming access and levels, selecting compatible systems and preparing surfaces before waterproofing is applied. In real workplace practice, this skill area is important because below-ground waterproofing must suit the substrate, moisture conditions, junctions, penetrations, construction joints and site requirements to prevent water ingress and protect completed membranes from damage.
The course assessment focuses on your ability to read work instructions; select PPE; apply safety, environmental, manufacturer and workplace requirements; follow JSAs, SWMSs and safety data sheets; inspect worksites and control hazards; check substrate defects; select tools, equipment and materials; calculate quantities; identify below-ground structures; choose compatible waterproofing systems; confirm access, set-out, alignment and levels; test substrate moisture; prepare surfaces, details and terminations; apply liquid and sheet systems to walls, footings, penetrations and junctions; protect and document membranes; and apply sealants to construction joints.
By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can apply waterproofing systems to wet areas below ground level by interpreting work requirements, applying safety and workplace controls, preparing substrates and site conditions, selecting compatible systems and materials, applying liquid and sheet waterproofing, detailing joints and terminations, documenting and protecting completed membranes, and completing sealant application requirements according to workplace procedures.
TOPICS COVERED IN THIS ASSESSMENT:
This course assessment is based on the following topics:
1. Reading and interpreting work instructions to plan below-ground waterproofing system application.
2. Selecting and using personal protective equipment for each stage of below-ground waterproofing work.
3. Applying laws, regulations, Australian Standards, WHS, environmental, manufacturer and workplace requirements.
4. Following job safety analyses, safe work method statements and safety data sheets for below-ground waterproofing tasks.
5. Inspecting worksites, assessing hazards and applying risk controls, signage and barricades.
6. Checking for substrate and surface defects and reporting identified defects before installation.
7. Selecting tools, equipment and materials, calculating quantities and preparing materials ready for use.
8. Identifying below-ground structures to be waterproofed from drawings and specifications.
9. Selecting compatible waterproofing systems suitable for site conditions and substrate requirements.
10. Confirming site access, setting out wet areas and checking alignment and finished levels.
11. Testing substrate moisture content and confirming compatibility with the selected waterproofing system.
12. Preparing detailing, terminations, uniform substrate finishes and cleaned surfaces ready for waterproofing.
13. Applying liquid and sheet waterproofing systems to below-ground masonry walls, footings, penetrations and wall-to-wall junctions.
14. Detailing, terminating, inspecting, documenting movement joints and protecting completed waterproofing membranes.
15. Selecting and applying sealants to construction joints, including backing rods, release agents, curing and protection requirements.
