In Tales you take on the role of one of the famous characters from The Red Dragon Inn series, as they go about their day jobs. The multi-scenario campaign pits players against enemies tailor-made for each illustrated foldout game board. Each scenario takes you to a new map, with new enemies and even a few tricky puzzles to solve. You must work together with the other players by equipping hero and item cards to support your allies who have their own unique skills and roles.

Each scenario has specific objectives, so how you and your group defeat each objective varies from "kill all enemies" to "survive X turns" to "protect this thing until something happens" to "get into this room." All players win the scenario together by completing the final objective of that scenario. They can also lose all together if one of them is defeated in combat, or in the case of many scenarios, if the enemies complete their own AI-controlled objective.
